Farfalla per la Biennale di Venezia

THE BUTTERFLY

“The life cycle” is the theme of the park which is currently being designed. I focused on the theme when conceiving the symbol that best reflects such motif in children’s playground. The need for an exhibition area devoted to children called for easy, simple and intuitive solutions. Children’s language is direct; they need clearly outlined, colourful figures. When attracted by a colour or familiar shape, their interest is sparked and they will observe and play with it, otherwise they will move onto something else.

The project’s approach was therefore intuitive, figurative, and recognizable to the eye….a butterfly. A rainbow of colours was created using Murano glass set in an iron frame: the light that goes through emanates and generates colours which are reflected onto its viewers.

The Occhiuto (mOa) architect studio, in tandem with the Ministry of the Environment and the Defence of the Territory and the Sea, is working in China to design “an Italian garden in China”. It called on Giovanni Casellato to design a work of art for the Park.
